HPA CP3 High-Pressure Fuel Pump Adapter Kit (BMW R70) - 2.0 Common Rail TDI
HPA’s CP3 Upgrade Kit replaces the failure-prone factory CP4 high-pressure fuel pump with the BMW R70 CP3 platform, a pump widely regarded for its mechanical robustness, pressure stability, and long-term reliability in performance diesel applications.
The CP3’s internal architecture allows it to safely support higher rail pressures under sustained load, making it the preferred solution for both stock and modified vehicles. In the majority of installations, the BMW CP3 integrates directly and operates correctly on the factory ECU calibration. In some cases, a calibration adjustment may be required to address rail-pressure control behavior.
This kit is engineered specifically for the BMW R70 CP3 pump and is not compatible with other variants.
All pumps supplied through HPA are new, genuine Bosch units sourced directly from Bosch—no remanufactured, rebuilt, or used components.Vehicle CompatibilityCompatible with North American 2.0L TDI engines (2009–2014):
  • CBEA
  • CJAA
Metering Valve InformationThe factory metering valve is retained; replacement is not required.Common compatible part numbers include:
  • 0928400751
  • 17930 42002
Final verification of metering valve compatibility remains the responsibility of the installer or tuner.Kit Contents

Technical & Installation Guidance
Hub center nut torque specification: 60 Nm (44 ft-lbs)
Fuel rail pressure sensor considerations: Factory vehicles are equipped with an 1875 bar rail pressure sensor, which is costly to replace if damaged. Higher-output builds may require a 2200 bar sensor, but this is only necessary for power levels beyond approximately 200 hp. Replacing a functioning factory sensor as a precaution is strongly discouraged, as it often introduces new faults rather than preventing them.
Fuel system preparation is mandatory: Any contamination within the fuel system can obstruct the CP3’s internal inlet screen. In severe cases, this can lead to screen plug failure and external fuel leakage. Bosch has confirmed that these incidents are not pump-related defects, but the result of insufficient fuel system cleaning prior to installation. To date, all CP3-related issues we have encountered were directly attributable to debris, not pump failure. When installed in a clean system, CP3 reliability has been exemplary.
Calibration requirements:Stock vehicles typically operate without calibration changesVehicles with existing ECU tuning will generally require a revisionOpen BIN files are not provided; calibration support must be coordinated through your tuner
Rail pressure fault diagnostics:Excessive rail pressure faults typically indicate a calibration issueLow rail pressure faults are more commonly mechanical in nature (injectors or rail)This CP3 upgrade reflects HPA’s commitment to engineered, long-term solutions, not short-term fixes. When installed correctly, it delivers OEM-level drivability with the durability required for higher-demand diesel applications.
