Performance VW has been at the forefront of modified Volkswagens since its launch back in 1996. The magazine has been instrumental in shaping the water-cooled scene as we know it, making it arguably the most innovative and influential of its kind.
Then to Now
Performance VW was founded in 1996 by a small publishing house and soon influenced the car builds enthusiasts were constructing and the emerging modification trends. International events and news coverage were integral to its success. It quickly gained a global cult following, which it still retains to this day. In the 2010s, Kelsey Media acquired the title in a larger purchase.
The magazine was recently acquired by long-serving contributor, Jamie Orr and editor of 20 years, Elliott Roberts – two of the most influential figures of the water-cooled Volkswagen scene. Their deep-rooted connection with the magazine and their vision for its future make them the perfect stewards of this iconic title.
Jamie Orr
Jamie should need no introduction to many of the magazine’s current readers andthroughout the Volkswagen automotive world. He has traveled across dozens of countries and multiple continents, driving modified VW cars, and he’s also built a career around the vehicles themselves. Orr has worked with manufacturers in spokesperson, project management, and logistical roles, including unveiling new cars at international auto shows and other large marketing campaigns. He hosts his own successful event, L’oe Show, in Pottstown, PA, USA, and has a vast personal collection of cars and historical items from the VW brand.
Elliott Roberts
Remaining at the head of Editorial work at the magazine, with over a quarter of a century’s experience as a motor journalist, Elliott Roberts has contributed to several automotive publications, with his specialist field being modified water-cooled VWs. Having edited Performance VW since 2004 and founded the globally recognized lifestyle brand Wheel Whores in 2007, it’s safe to say he knows a thing or two about modified metal.
