turbo replacement

haven't had much time with it but I notice the waste gate was ajusted at 3.4volt .I'm wondering if this will have what effect.

Blew up

Had the turbo in for a few weeks on a low boost safe tune. Was driving spirited and felt a loss of power, I thought no way could it be the turbo, it’s brand new and the best of the best for is38 reliability. It indeed was the turbo, the shaft has a crazy amount of play. Now I have to remove the turbo, pay for all new fluids, pay to ship the turbo back, and hope they warranty the part for me. I will update the review if something happens, but for the time being I am not too satisfied with what I once thought was the best of the best.

Awesome turbo

Install wasn’t terrible. Just took my time saw the washers that came in the kit so tried to do the install based off the kit that came with the turbo. Once got past that tuned the car and went for a test drive. Power is there and it delivers without a doubt so happy I went with the is38 from HPA. Customer service was awesome as well!

Best IS38 option

Ran this turbo with zero issues tuned to 400whp. Many track days and normal driving including few long distance trips. Went to a bigger turbo for more power but this one came off the car in perfect condition with zero shaft play. I highly recommend this IS38 if you plan on pushing it past the factory tuning. If your turbo supposedly blows after 3 days it’s definitely your due to improper install or the tuning.

OEM+ IS38 Turbo Upgrade

HPA is proud to offer an OEM+ IS38 Turbo that addresses all the reliability concerns plaguing the OE IHI IS38. This is a perfect service part for blown IS38 turbos, or a great upgrade for GTI owners looking to upgrade their IS20.

Unrivaled Reliability

Precision Engineered

Each turbo requires precision CNC machining of the intake and exhaust housings and include an HPA proprietary mixed-flow turbine wheel, and CNC machined billet compressor wheel with better spool and anti-surge characteristics while still being compatible with all brands of IS38 tuning

OEM+ QUALITY

We found on some OEM turbos after long-term heat cycling from high EGTs to cold, the wastegate itself physically bends. Some of them have snapped and ended up in the catalytic convertor. This is a concern especially for customers who attend track days and drive their cars hard. We have upgraded all our wastegates with a highly heat resistant Inconel version to ensure this never happens.

BOLT ON FITMENT

The HPA IS38 Hybrid turbo upgrade has everything you will need for a simple and quick installation including an HPA Turbo Muffler Delete, OEM diverter valve, OEM wastegate actuator, and OEM installation kit along with all hardware required. All turbos will ship from HPA with the wastegate actuator set to the exact voltage needed for true plug-and-play installation.

HPA OEM+ IS38 equipped GTI Delivers on the Ultimate Endurance Test!

Jamie Orr, Max Everhard, and Pedro Ruta Jr. set out to go from the top of South America to “fin del mundo” in Argentina in the Rallywagen, a slammed 400HP Volkswagen MK7 GTI. This GTI packed with three guys, camera equipment and camping gear, traversed nine countries, eleven border crossings, eight thousand five-hundred miles!

"I probably can't put into words how much I absolutely beat on the turbo from the moment it was installed.. It was flawless, with 12,000+ miles on one oil change... We went Coast to Coast in the USA non-stop in sub-30 hours as the first drive with it basically. In South America there were days that we would literally drive at 50-75% throttle until the fuel tank was empty, stop to refuel without turning the engine off, and then do the same, over and over again. On one specific day I drove with questionable fuel from 500 ft to 15,500 ft, continuously going full throttle to pass tractor trailers, then stopping for photos, and repeating."
