Install wasn’t terrible. Just took my time saw the washers that came in the kit so tried to do the install based off the kit that came with the turbo. Once got past that tuned the car and went for a test drive. Power is there and it delivers without a doubt so happy I went with the is38 from HPA. Customer service was awesome as well!
Just had this unit installed on my Alltrack as part of a Stage III build from my local VW dealer (who is also the APR dealer). I chose HPA over a straight OEM R version for the advanced engineering and quality HPA has invested in it. Loving it so far, and looking forward to putting over 100K miles on it!

The HPA OEM+ IS38 Turbo features a fully upgraded and redesigned bearing system. This bearing system has been proven out in the field with 100% reliability on our 450 HP level Hybrid Turbos. We are providing the exact same package in an OEM+ design. This is insurance from the known weaknesses of the OEM IHI turbo.
Each turbo requires precision CNC machining of the intake and exhaust housings and include an HPA proprietary mixed-flow turbine wheel, and CNC machined billet compressor wheel with better spool and anti-surge characteristics while still being compatible with all brands of IS38 tuning
We found on some OEM turbos after long-term heat cycling from high EGTs to cold, the wastegate itself physically bends. Some of them have snapped and ended up in the catalytic convertor. This is a concern especially for customers who attend track days and drive their cars hard. We have upgraded all our wastegates with a highly heat resistant Inconel version to ensure this never happens.

"I probably can't put into words how much I absolutely beat on the turbo from the moment it was installed.. It was flawless, with 12,000+ miles on one oil change... We went Coast to Coast in the USA non-stop in sub-30 hours as the first drive with it basically.
