Langley BC CANADA, July 12, 2015 – HPA, in their rookie season gunning for the PWC championship, has been leaving a footprint at every venue on the PWC schedule. The second race for the 2 HPA cars, Road America, was an eye-opener for our team, thoroughly impressed by the stunning world renowned race course.

After a grueling push across the country, the team landed unpacked and ready to turn things around in this mid-season event. Minor engineering changes to the HPA Jetta GLIs were showing positive results, boosting the teams confidence pre-race.

With three successful test sessions on Thursday with no signs of engine trouble, car No.15 and No.16 took to the grid for official practice and qualifying. Altenburg in No.15 clawed into a 4th position in practice, and backed this performance by owning P1 for a brief moment, until he was knocked off the pole by a 0.013 second differential.

After enduring mechanical failures in Toronto and Cota with No.15, the team felt rewarded to see the progressive engineering process pay off. With only 0.842 seconds separating 6th through 8th, Welch was in an incredibly tight battle, pleased to be starting from the front half of the field.

A true “Royal Rumble” was the only way to describe the competition up front for the final race, as the FWD cars pressed against the rear wheel drive entries. It was a heated battle, with the Porsches accelerating forward and Mazdas chasing behind, but our DSG equipped Jettas truly became the catalyst in the mix.

Having to accelerate and brake across the front tires, both Jettas had their work cut out to keep the pace up for the entire session. Poised for battle, Jeff Altenburg fought for the lead in Car #15 from his place in Q2, and Alex Welch in Car #16 worked his way through the pack from 8th position. Learning early that you need roll speed through the corners in order to excel on the Road America track, Altenburg used his weekend experience to bring home HPA’s historic 1st place win for the season!
