Langley BC CANADA, Sept 10, 2015 – HPA Motorsports, with their blistering fast DSG equipped Jetta GLI’s have much to boast about, a well-deserved win at Road America and a reputable second place at Mid-Ohio. Knowing that the Miller race course would be no walk in the park, the team made sure to address all DSG heating issues and minor suspension faults that cost them positions during mid-season.

Being in high spirits and focused on ending the season with a reputable finish, the team knew they had their share of work cut out for them. With car 15 out of the race due to fire damage in Mid-Ohio, HPA channeled all of their focus to car 16 piloted by Alex Welch.

Being 4400ft above sea level and having to compensate for altitude and lower boost levels, the HPA team seemed to have left no rock unturned in preparation for the race. Due diligence aside, Car 16 with a grounded taillight and burnt fuel pump was deprived of the regular practice round. The team quickly resolved these issues and had the Jetta ready for race 1. Fully amped, Alex Welch kicked off race 1 strong in front of the pack battling it out with some fierce competitors. Car 16 ended up qualifying 3rd for race 1 taking them into the next round.

Race 2 kicked off and the fight was on for 3rd place while playing cat and mouse with the MX-5 car 50. Car 16 pushed forward and made some serious ground before getting bumped from behind and thrown into an uncontrollable spin. Alex was officially out for race 2, a truly disheartening altercation depriving Alex and HPA of their 2nd Podium finish. Maybe it was uncontrollable circumstances or unforeseeable technicalities, PWC Miller turned out to be a heated fight to the finish for car 16 and the HPA team.

Fueled with the desire to win, the HPA pit crew quickly inspected the damaged Jetta and gave Alex the go-ahead for the final race. Laying down some rubber, Alex went in strong and held his position from turn to turn till an inner tire wall failure concluded the race and put car 16 in 6th for the final race.

The HPA team truly felt this was a very demanding race with many challenges. Alex Welch as always, drove like the champion he is and succeeded in getting on the podium yet again. With one race left to end the season, HPA and car 16 head to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, California.
